Starting this interview series with Rebecca Jackson, to talk about living in Alabama in the 21st century, seemed like a no-brainer. Raised in Montgomery and educated at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where she got a degree in political science, Rebecca Jackson is the name on the e-mails and Facebook messages that I get about the initiatives and efforts of the non-profit where she works. It is her job as an organizer to help turn theory into practice – ideas about improving life in Alabama into legislation – and also to communicate about their work to ordinary people like myself who don’t spend much time on Capitol Hill. I knew that, at twenty-six years old, Rebecca’s would be a fresh (and informed) voice for what is going on in Alabama, especially in the political arena, and where we go from here.
