Click here to listen or download Although Alabama is widely regarded as a farming state, only about 1% of the state population are actually farmers. Unlike the large farming operations, often called “agribusiness,” smaller farms that use the consumer supported agriculture model, or CSAs, are popping up around the state, and David Snow and Margaret Ann Toohey own and operate one of them: Snows Bend Farm near Tuscaloosa. Though it would have been ideal to visit the farm, the cold and wet January weather wouldn’t permit it, so I sat down for breakfast with the couple at the Crimson Café on University Boulevard to talk about their work. |
