Click here to listen or download. Huntsville was the last stop for the project. As one of Alabama's five metropolitan areas, life in Huntsville is centered mostly around aeronautics and technological work for federal government projects, which makes the state's northernmost city quite different from the rest of the state. Military personnel and more engineers than you could shake a stick at come and go on revolving basis, which is how Wyatt Akin ended up there. A military brat who was (and is still) big into skating, Wyatt returned to Huntsville after spending years away, and from there he runs a web project called Skate Alabama, a digital archive of skateboarding pictures and narratives from all over the state. We sat down, with both of our wives and his one-year-old daughter, in Mullins Restaurant near Five Points for this final talk, amidst big plates of Sunday morning homestyle breakfast. |
